Major Stephanie Poitier Coker began her career in law enforcement with the Broward Sheriff’s Office in 2001. During her tenure, she has served the community and the Broward Sheriff’s Office in many capacities such as road patrol deputy, detective, sergeant of road patrol and Criminal Investigations, as well as chairperson of the Professional Standards committee in Internal Affairs. 

She has been promoted and excelled through the ranks of sergeant in 2007, lieutenant in 2015, executive lieutenant in 2016 and captain of the South Broward District in February 2017. She was named major in March 2023

Major Coker holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Florida A&M University, an associate’s degree in Funeral Services from Miami Dade College and a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. She also is a graduate of the North Broward Leadership Academy and has partaken in numerous leadership and self-development classes.

Major Coker currently sits on the board of Women in Distress and is a member of the National Organization for Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) as well as the South Florida Chapter.
