Major Scott Champagne is a 27-year law enforcement veteran beginning his career with the City of Lauderhill (FL) Police Department after serving honorably in the United States Army. During his tenure with the Lauderhill Police Department, he served as a Patrolman, Field Training Officer, and Detective assigned to Criminal Investigations investigating Robbery/Violent Crime. In 2002, Major Champagne left the city of Lauderhill Police Department to become a Broward County Sheriff's Office Deputy.  During his tenure at the Broward Sheriff's Office, Major Champagne has served in several capacities within Road Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Countywide Watch Commander, Regional Patrol Services, and Internal Affairs and Public Corruption. Major Champagne spent over a decade serving as a Homicide Detective, Homicide Sergeant, and Homicide / Violent Crimes Section Lieutenant within the Criminal Investigations Division. Upon his promotion to Captain, Major Champagne was assigned as the Director of Internal Affairs & Public Corruption. In October 2020, Major Champagne was promoted to the rank of Major and was tasked with creating and developing the Office of Inspector General within the Bureau of Compliance and Accountability, overseeing the Division of Internal Affairs & Public Corruption, Division of Policy & Accountability, Internal Audit, Staff Inspections, and Accreditation.

Major Champagne holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Justice Studies and a Master's Degree in Public Safety Leadership and Administration from Arizona State University. Major Champagne is a graduate of the 84th Session of the University of Louisville Southern Police Institute's Command Officer Development Course and the 287th Session of the FBI National Academy. Major Champagne is the agency's first Certified Inspector General recognized by the Association of Inspectors General Institute and is a recipient of the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award.
