Major Jose Acosta

Major Jose Acosta joined the Broward Sheriff's Office as a detention deputy on September 8, 1997, and was cross-certified as a law enforcement officer in May of 2000. Throughout his career he has worked in Central Intake - Booking, the Main Jail, Stockade - Military Training Unit, Joseph V. Conte, and Paul Rein facilities. Additionally, Captain Acosta served as a sergeant in Internal Affairs and as an instructor and supervisor in the Training Division. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2004, lieutenant in 2011, and captain in 2017.

Major Acosta was selected to take command of the Joseph V. Conte Facility; a 1,328 bed facility of male-medium custody inmates and currently is the Assistant Director of North Operations.  He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Nova Southeastern University, in Davie Florida. He is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute Command Officers Development Course at the University of Louisville; the National Jail Leadership Command Academy at Sam Houston State University; and the Executive Leadership Program at Nova Southeastern University.
