Major Jonathan Brown began his law enforcement career with the Broward Sheriff's Office in 2001 as a road patrol deputy assigned to Unincorporated Pompano Beach District. In 2003, he was assigned to the Deerfield Beach District as a Property Crimes Detective and also served in Field Force. His expertise and commitment were further demonstrated when he moved to the Criminal Investigations Division as a Violent Crimes Detective until his promotion to Sergeant in 2012. Upon promotion, he served as a uniform road patrol supervisor in Dania Beach, until being assigned to the Internal Affairs Division as a Sergeant Investigator for three years. Additionally, he became certified as one of the agency's polygraphists. In 2016, he returned to the Criminal Investigations Division and served as the Violent Crimes Unit supervisor, then Homicide Unit supervisor until his promotion to lieutenant in 2018. He remained in CID as the Violent Crimes Section lieutenant until he was selected to the position of Executive Officer for the City of Parkland in 2020. In 2021, Major Brown was promoted to the position of Captain and once again returned to the Criminal Investigations Division to serve as the Division Captain until his promotion to Major on April 5th, 2025. He currently oversees the Criminal Investigations Division, Real Time Crime Center, Threat Management Unit, Crime Laboratory, Crime Scene Unit, Crime Stoppers Unit and Evidence Unit.
Major Brown proudly served in the United States Navy Active Duty for eight years. He served most of his time as a military police officer assigned overseas. Major Brown holds a Bachelor's Degree of Public Administration from Barry University and an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice from Broward College. Additionally, he has completed the FBI-LEEDA Leadership Trilogy Course. He is an active member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).
