Major Ed McCardle

Major Edward McCardle began his tenure with the Broward Sheriff's Office as a road patrol deputy in the Central Broward district in 1996. Major McCardle has served in various specialized investigative roles, serving as a property crimes detective and later as a member of the Special Victims Unit.

In 2003, he was promoted to sergeant. He served in the Deerfield Beach District as a road patrol supervisor for the next two years. He moved to the Criminal Investigations Division, overseeing the Special Victims Unit and the Robbery Unit.

He was promoted to lieutenant in May 2015, serving the Central Broward and Oakland Park districts. In 2016, he transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division to oversee the Homicide and Violent Crimes Units. In January 2018, he was promoted to executive lieutenant of the Strategic Investigations Division. 

In June 2019, Major McCardle was promoted to captain. He was assigned to the Child Protective Investigations Section. For four years, he oversaw the division dedicated to protecting the most vulnerable members of society.

In July 2023, Major McCardle was elevated to major, overseeing the Human Resources Division.

Major McCardle holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Dayton.
