Lieutenant Colonel Scott Champagne is a seasoned law enforcement professional with 28 years of service, beginning his career with the City of Lauderhill (FL) Police Department after an honorable tenure in the United States Army. Over the years, he has held various positions within the Lauderhill Police Department, including Patrolman, Field Training Officer, and Detective in the Criminal Investigations unit, where he focused on Robbery and Violent Crimes.
In 2002, Lieutenant Colonel Champagne transitioned to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, where he has held numerous critical roles across Road Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Countywide Watch Commander, Regional Patrol Services, Internal Affairs & Public Corruption, and the Office of the Inspector General. He spent over a decade serving as a Homicide Detective, Sergeant, and Lieutenant in the Homicide/Violent Crimes Section within the Criminal Investigations Division.
Upon his promotion to Captain, Lieutenant Colonel Champagne was appointed as the Director of Internal Affairs & Public Corruption. In October 2020, he rose to the rank of Major and was tasked with establishing the Office of Inspector General, Bureau of Compliance and Accountability, overseeing Internal Affairs & Public Corruption, Policy & Accountability, Internal Audit, Staff Inspections, and Accreditation. In 2025, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and appointed as the Deputy Executive Director of the Department of Professional Standards & Investigations.
Lieutenant Colonel Champagne holds a Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies and a Master's in Public Safety Leadership and Administration from Arizona State University. He is the agency's first Certified Inspector General, recognized by the Association of Inspectors General Institute. Additionally, Lieutenant Colonel Champagne is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 287, and the University of Louisville Southern Police Institute's Command Officer Development Course, Session 84.
