Lieutenant Colonel
Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Samaroo began his career with the Broward Sheriff’s Office in 1992 as a detention deputy. In 1997, he was assigned to the Academy as a Corrections Class Advisor. In 1998, he was transferred to the Department of Law Enforcement and worked assignments in Road Patrol, Civil Division, Field Training, and Narcotics.
In 2012, he was promoted to sergeant and worked as a road patrol supervisor. He was reassigned to the Training Division from 2013 to 2018. In 2018, he was promoted to lieutenant. He was assigned to the Pompano Beach District and became the executive officer for Area 2. In 2019, he was promoted to captain of the Training Division and later served as the major overseeing the Training Division, Public Safety Building Security, and the Reserves Unit. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in March 2023, overseeing the Department of Law Enforcement. In April 2025, he was assigned as the Lieutenant Colonel of the Department of Preparedness and Response.
Lt. Col. Samaroo is recognized as a use-of-force expert. He holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice and has graduated from the 293rd session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He has completed the FBI LEEDA Trilogy, Leadership North Broward, and the Northwestern Executive Program. He is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Broward County Chiefs of Police Association.
