Lieutenant Carla Slappy began her career at the Broward Sheriff's Office in August of 2004, graduating from BSO Academy #8. As a Deputy she was assigned to the Joseph V. Conte Facility, Paul Rein Facility and Central Intake Bureau. She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2013 and completed various training courses to include Florida General Instructor, Verbal Defense and Influence, Line Supervision, Middle Management. 

In 2018, she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to JV Conte and Main Jail. In 2021, she completed the FBI LEEDA Leadership course and Police Executive Development. 

In 2022, she was promoted to the rank of executive lieutenant for the Central Intake Bureau & Confinement Status.
