The Broward Sheriff's Office Civil Division carries out the sheriff's statutory responsibility for the service of process and execution of writs.  These legal documents originate from the courts, governmental agencies, private citizens and private attorneys in Florida and throughout the United States, and include the following:

  • Summons, Complaints, Subpoenas
  • Writs of Possession (Evictions)
  • Injunctions for Protection against Domestic Violence
  • Child Pick Up Orders
  • Writs of Garnishment
  • Arrest Orders/Writs of Bodily Attachments
  • Writs of Execution (Levy / Replevin)

Sheriff's Sales are also conducted by the Civil Division to aid in the collection of money judgments.

When filing a Writ of Possession (Eviction) with the Broward Sheriff's Office, you can expect your eviction to be completed in the order it was received in approximately 10-15 working days after the posting.

To check on the status of your documents, go to the Sheriff's website (Sheriff.org) and select the "Inside BSO" tab and then select the "Civil Division" from the drop-down menu. On the left side, "Civil Service Inquire/Search" and search by name (last name, (space) first name) or case number.  Type the case number exactly as specified on the legal document.

The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO), Civil Division, does not accept personal checks for payment or credit cards. 

Acceptable forms of payment (with a valid photo ID and contact information) include the following:

  • Cash (in person only and must have exact amount and a valid photo ID)
  • Money Order, Cashier Checks and Business Checks

All forms of payment will be made payable to the Broward Sheriff's Office.  Payments returned from the bank will be charged a fee consistent with Broward County Administrative Code 35.3.
