Administrative Unit
The Administrative Unit serves as the operational backbone of the BSO Crime Laboratory, delivering high-quality support to laboratory management and specialized assistance to each forensic discipline, including DNA, Firearms/Tool Marks, Evidence Intake, Latent Prints, Quality Assurance and Seized Drugs. This unit ensures that laboratory service requests are accurately documented, properly prioritized and routed to the appropriate forensic section for timely processing.
Administrative staff validate statistical data from the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to meet rigorous grant and reporting requirements. They also manage incoming inquiries via phone and email, directing communications to the correct unit and documenting critical details to support casework and customer service. Time-sensitive subpoenas and deposition requests are coordinated with precision, ensuring alignment with laboratory schedules and seamless collaboration with Broward County Courts.
In addition to managing workflow and communications, the Administrative Unit conducts quality reviews and distributes approximately 20,000 forensic reports annually. Their attention to detail and commitment to service ensure the Crime Laboratory functions efficiently, accurately and responsively.
