Lieutenant Robert Smith began his career with the Broward Sheriff's Office as a deputy in the Department of Law Enforcement in February of 2002. He spent 12 years as a Road Patrol Deputy in the Central Broward/Lauderdale Lakes District. During that time, he served as a Truancy Liaison Deputy, a CIT Deputy and he served a period as the long-term OIC for the district. He also worked briefly in the Port Everglades District and Weston District prior to being promoted to Sergeant in March 2016. After being promoted, he served as a Road Patrol Sergeant in the Pompano Beach District and Weston District. In addition, he served as an investigative sergeant in the Internal Affairs Division and served as a supervisor in both the International Airport District and the Special Events and Logistics Unit. Lieutenant Smith was promoted to the position of Lieutenant in January 2021 and was assigned to the Recruitment Unit where he currently serves. Lieutenant Smith earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising from the University of Florida. He has also taken graduate-level courses at Arizona State University. Lieutenant Smith completed the FBI LEEDA Trilogy Course, and he is a 2023 graduate of the University of Louisville's 92nd Command Officer Development Course.

Connie Wallen profile photo

Connie Wallen

Sergeant Connie Wallen began her career with the Broward Sheriff's Office as a detention deputy in May 1995 after serving five years in the United States Army. She transitioned to the Department of Law Enforcement in October 1998. During her tenure as a deputy, she worked in various capacities such as Road Patrol, Selective Enforcement Team, Accreditation and Recruitment. In April 2006, Sgt. Wallen was promoted to sergeant and worked in a supervisory role in the Lauderdale Lakes District, North Lauderdale District, Child Protective Services, Port Everglades and Recruitment. Sgt. Wallen earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute & University and a Master of Arts in Executive Leadership from Saint Thomas University.

Nicholas Dye profile photo

Deputy Nicholas Dye began his career with the Broward Sheriff’s Office as a deputy in the Department of Law Enforcement in June of 2017 after serving four years with the United States Marine Corps. He spent five years as a road patrol deputy in Pompano Beach. While in Pompano, Deputy Dye conducted road patrol throughout the city. He soon joined the CORE Community Outreach Response and Enforcement (CORE) Team. Deputy Dye was also a Crime Suppression Team (CST) member, where he conducted undercover narcotics investigations. In May of 2024, he transferred to the Recruitment Unit. He is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Eliana Amiel profile photo

Deputy Eliana Amiel began her career with the Broward Sheriff's Office as a law enforcement deputy in 2016. She was assigned to the Tamarac District, where she served as a road patrol deputy and the homeless outreach liaison. In 2018, Deputy Amiel transferred to the Lauderdale Lakes/Unincorporated Broward County District as a patrol deputy. In February 2020, Deputy Amiel was transferred to the Recruitment Unit. Deputy Amiel is fluent in Spanish, Hebrew and Portuguese, and is learning Haitian Creole. She is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.

Diana Reid profile photo

Diana Reid

Deputy Diana Reid began her career with the Broward Sheriff's Office in February 1998. She previously worked in the Main Jail - Central Intake and the courthouse. She has worked various assignments such as transportation, booking and the Baker Act Unit. She was reassigned to the Recruitment Unit in 2022. Deputy Reid obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice from Florida Memorial University.

Christopher Barrera profile photo

Deputy Christopher Barrera began his career as a Detention Deputy in October 2004. Deputy Barrera has dedicated his 18 years of experience to ensuring security within the various detention facilities and providing proper care and maintaining custody of the incarcerated population. He has served in several specialized units including the Emergency Response Unit, Extraditions Unit, Security Threat Group and the Crisis Intervention Team. During his tenure with the Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Detention, Deputy Barrera has worked in the following facilities: Main Jail, Central Intake-Booking, Mental Health Court, Drug Court, satellite booking facilities and the Joseph V. Conte Facility.
