Robert Smith
Lieutenant Robert Smith began his career with the Broward Sheriff's Office as a deputy in the Department of Law Enforcement in February of 2002. He spent 12 years as a Road Patrol Deputy in the Central Broward/Lauderdale Lakes District. During that time, he served as a Truancy Liaison Deputy, a CIT Deputy and he served a period as the long-term OIC for the district. He also worked briefly in the Port Everglades District and Weston District prior to being promoted to Sergeant in March 2016. After being promoted, he served as a Road Patrol Sergeant in the Pompano Beach District and Weston District. In addition, he served as an investigative sergeant in the Internal Affairs Division and served as a supervisor in both the International Airport District and the Special Events and Logistics Unit. Lieutenant Smith was promoted to the position of Lieutenant in January 2021 and was assigned to the Recruitment Unit where he currently serves. Lieutenant Smith earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising from the University of Florida. He has also taken graduate-level courses at Arizona State University. Lieutenant Smith completed the FBI LEEDA Trilogy Course, and he is a 2023 graduate of the University of Louisville's 92nd Command Officer Development Course.
