Communications Operator III Nikima Thompson succumbed to COVID-19 on May 4, 2020. She began her career with the Broward Sheriff's Office in 2003. Within three years of serving with the agency she was promoted to Communications Operator II and Communications Operator III. She was one of the more than 400 specially trained public safety communications operators who answer more than 1.25 million 911 calls each year. Ms. Thompson is the first civilian employed with the Broward Sheriff's Office to have passed away in the Line of Duty. She was born and raised in Miami and graduated from Miami Norland Senior High School. She is survived by her father, retired Miami-Dade officer Herman Wilson, her sisters, Gina Stewart and Andrea Stephens, brother, Herman Wilson, Jr. and her four children, Aran Jr., Isaiah, Justin, and Heaven.
