Chief Joe Dorsette began his career at the City of North Lauderdale Fire Department in 1999. He joined Broward County Fire Rescue in 2003 which shortly after merged with the Broward Sheriff's Office. Chief Dorsette rose through the ranks from firefighter to a chief officer, additionally, he served as a company officer on the Technical Rescue team before being promoted to a Chief officer role. Next, he was promoted to division chief of Training and Professional Standards assigned to oversee, track, and manage all training and education. He was promoted to assistant chief in May 2023.
Chief Dorsette is a State of Florida Hazardous Materials Technician, FLUSAR Rescue Specialist, Fire Service instructor, Live Fire instructor, Level A and B EMS instructor, he is also currently finishing a bachelor's degree in Emergency Management. Chief Dorsette is also member of the International Society of Fire Service Instructors, International Association of Fire Chiefs, Florida Fire Chiefs Association, Broward County Fire Chiefs Association, and a member of the Broward County training subcommittee.
